This Anna's Hummingbird dives deep into one of the five prolonged tubular petals of the Yellow Columbine. With each sip of the nectar, the hummer coats herself with yellow pollen, disguising the bird's true green, gray and purple colors.
The Anna's Hummingbird is the only hummingbird that breeds in the winter, instead of the spring and summer like the other breeds. Named after Anna de Belle Massena, Duchess of Rivoli, Italy, this bird is known for its noisy, rambunctious, and aeronautical feats during courtship.
